 Careers: QA Engineer

This person will be responsible for assuring the functional and technical quality of BenefitPoint's Web-based applications and integrations. He/she will work on a team of test and quality assurance engineers that will be responsible for developing and managing application testware for an object-oriented Java programmed system.

Essential Duties/Tasks:
  • Analyze functional requirements and User Interface (UI) design documents for new product and maintenance releases. Based on your analysis results, design, create and/or update testware (i.e. test scripts and test data) within the timeframe specified in the product release schedule. The testware that you develop should fully cover testing all of the application behaviors specified in the functional requirements and UI documents.
  • Execute test scripts within the timeframe specified in the product release schedule. Test execution is both manual and automated, this includes the creation of test scripts using the WinRunner test automation tool.
  • Analyze test results. Record testing issues in the issue tracking system. Work with Product Development to resolve test failures.
  • Understand and follow the BenefitPoint Quality Assurance methods and procedures
  • Understand the BenefitPoint application and how it satisfies the business needs of the Insurance Industry. You will have testing responsibility for one or more features of a product release.
  • Partner with the QA Automation team to manage the successful execution of GUI and Non-GUI automated tests
  • All other duties, as assigned
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to generate and execute test procedures

  • Ability to facilitate resolution of problems and software faults
  • Fundamental knowledge of testing techniques and methodologies
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle

Technical knowledge:
  • System level and/or GUI testing
  • Solid Windows Vista/XP/2000/98/95 platform experience
  • Business Application Software: MS Word, Excel, Visio, Project
  • Knowledge of commercially available testing tools; e.g. WinRunner, QuickTestPro, Silk, SQA Robot
  • Experience using Service Oriented Architecture automation tools a plus (ie SOATest).
  • Knowledge of Web-based environments

Customer, Industry, and Development Lifecycle Knowledge:
  • General knowledge of Employee Benefits industry (e.g. procurement, distribution and management)
  • General understanding of the entire application development lifecycle
  • In-depth experience with entire testware development lifecycle
  • In-depth experience in the release testing lifecycle; e.g. usability, system,, acceptance, performance, upgrade, load and stress.
  • In-depth understanding of test types; e.g.. black-box, white-box, boundary, negative, browsing, static)
Education and Experience:
  • Exposure to automation testing tools i.e. WinRunner, LoadRunner, Test Director
  • Experience in any phase of software development lifecycle: design, development, analysis, testing, or training
  • Testware development and maintenance
  • Web application exposure or development
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to sit at a desk or computer workstation for up to 8 hours in a shift.
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to use computer hardware and keyboards, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers and other standard office equipment.
  • Physical ability to transport/move personal laptop computer equipment weighing up to 5 pounds.
